Self Reflection

For this course we had a volunteering to do so we spend time during the classes we take on volunteering to special needs. I define volunteering as spending time with helping people without any charges during the free times.
We set up in groups which my group is containing four students, and we volunteered in  organization which is part of Zayed Higher Organization called Abu Dhabi Club for special needs.  This Club is for disables who are players of all kind of sports to play it in the Olympics or matches. They inter the competition to wen, and they have lots of the gold medallions.
What I learned through this experience is that I never gave up on trying and doing things again and again, and I never regret on doing something even if it's wrong because I learn from my mistakes. The disables people taught me a lot during my volunteering with them. They taught me that I need to set up my goals for the future, and be ready and prepare all the time. I enjoyed volunteering with these people, and I'm happy that I took this experience and met them.
When I'm with them I feel comfortable and nothing is more important than just focusing on the reason of why I'm there. This experience is like a wonderful thing that I have it through my life, which I learned a lot about it and how does it mean to the people who needs help and we're there for them, they make you feel like a hero, I loved them a lot and I wish I keep going on this direction to learn more and to feel satisfied about my life.

Today, 19th May 2014 (5:00pm-7:00pm), was the last day of volunteering. In this day, we prepared the girls disable team for the basketball for the match that will be set up on 30th of May in Dubai. We played in team four on four to watch their playing and correct their mistakes for the match, and we took almost 2 hours in teaching them and training them. Before we go, we said goodbye and hugged each of them which it broke my heart because its the last day with them, of course we will not forget them, and they are part o our family now.

Also we will have an experience of dealing with the special needs people.

Planning and preparing is the most important purpose of this project.

We will improve the plan of the club in the future.

Benefits:

We are dealing with disable people and they have special needs and we should know how to deal with them, so we had prepared before meeting them by searching in websites and reading about it.

They are sensitive people and our actions sometimes reflect on them so we have to be attention to our actions.

Some skills we had learned understanding and give them the patient and support them, and listen to let them feel comfortable and gain confidence to encourage them to success and get their needs and be accepted in society.

Challenges:

Of course it might be some challenges there to pass and one of them is the comfortableness of the members (disabilities) with us, and that's considered as a big challenge and hopefully we can get through it and success with our project.

The First Day Of Volunteering ( 15th April 2014)

Today, Tuesday 15th April 2014 (5:00pm- 7:00pm), was the first of the volunteering in Abu Dhabi club for special needs. When I entered the club we went straight to the manager of the club, he was so kind with dealing with us, and we had a short meeting which he mentioned the history of the club and when did it open, plus he talked about his jobs before and how many years did he manage this club (3 years). The manager Faisal was so emotional and effective in his words to those disables, and every word was telling us that he consider them as his own children from he's flesh and blood which we moved by him and gave us a motive to love and respect those kind of people. He also mentioned some other clubs that these children are training in, and what kind of Olympics they played, the medallions they got and how can we train them. The manager gave as a tour around the club to know the right place of every work.

After that he took us to the Armed Forces Officers Club (one of the club he mentioned). We met some of the trainers and there were some of the disable boys playing football and other girls were training on basketball. We stood watching them how they train and how good they are on it. In the end of the first day of the volunteering and before we go back home we discussed  and decided on which day we will volunteer, how many hours and all of that will be updated in the volunteer plan.
